Visit of Professors and Students from Chung Shan Medical University to MFU School of Nursing

From June 30 to July 5, 2024, the MFU School of Nursing (MFU-SoN) welcomed professors and inbound exchange students from the Department of Nursing at Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU), Taiwan. The delegation from CSMU included Dr. Shu-Hsin Lee, Chair of the Department of Nursing, Professor Dr. Cheng Yi Huang, and Associate Professor Dr. Yen-Chiao Lu, Chair of the International Relations, along with three master’s degree students and six bachelor’s degree students.

The visit was hosted by Assistant Professor Dr. Chompunut Sopajaree, Dean of MFU-SoN, and Dr. Piyatida Junlapeeya, Head of International Affairs, alongside other members of the International Affairs team. The purpose of the visit was to extend the collaborative activities established between the two institutions since 2019, further solidified by a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2023.

Activities during the visit included:

  • Introduction and Plan for 2025 Student Exchange: An initial meeting to share information between MFU-SoN and CSMU’s Department of Nursing, and to plan for the Student Exchange Program for the 2025 academic year.
  • Orientation for Inbound Exchange Students: An overview and orientation for the visiting students.
  • Global Relations Discussions: Meetings with administrative officers from the MFU Global Relations Division (GRD) to discuss support for exchange students.
  • Nursing Learning Resource Center: A visit to share experiences on the use of VR in nursing education.
  • Health Promotion Activities: Observations at Mae Khoa Tom Sub District Hospital focusing on Fundamentals of Nursing Practicum in a community setting, Long-Term Care, and home visits.
  • Clinical Visits: Tours of the Intensive Care Unit, the Surgical and Medical wards at the Medical Center Hospital, Mae Fah Luang University.
  • Collaborative Discussions: Discussions about the integration of technology in teaching and learning, the research collaboration, and the COIL programs.

During the one-month exchange program, the six CSMU bachelor’s degree students will participate in the Fundamentals of Nursing and Adult Nursing Practicum courses. They will also visit the Thai Chinese Mae Fah Luang University Hospital. The students will be supported by MFU-SoN student buddies to exchange knowledge and experiences of the nursing profession, as well as the cultures of the two countries.

The visit was a significant opportunity to strengthen the partnership between the two institutions, fostering academic and cultural exchange.
