From June 22-29, 2024, the School of Nursing at Mae Fah Luang University (MFU-SoN) warmly hosted professors and nursing students from the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Deakin University, Australia, for the Nursing and Health in Thailand 2024 training program. The delegation was graciously received by Asst. Prof. Dr. Chompunut Sopajaree, Dean of the MFU School of Nursing, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Katemanee Moonpanane, Assistant Dean, Dr. Piyatida Junlapeeya, Head of International Affairs, and members of the International Affairs Committee.
The esteemed visitors included:
- Professor Dr. Ana Hutchinson, Associate Head of School, Research
- Lecturer Chantelle Dowling, Unit Chair - Academic Study Tour Leader
- Twelve undergraduate nursing students
The training program activities included:
- Site Visits: Field studies were conducted to explore nursing practices at various facilities, including the medical intensive care unit and the medical and surgical wards at the Medical Center Hospital, Mae Fah Luang University Hospitals, Thai and Chinese Traditional Medicine at Mae Fah Luang University Hospitals, cross-border health at Mae Sai Hospital, ethnic health at Mae Fah Luang Hospital, and community nursing at the Mae Khow Tom Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital.
- Academic and Cultural Exchange: Professors from Deakin University School of Nursing and Midwifery gave research presentations. MFU-SoN student buddies facilitated the exchange of knowledge and experiences in the nursing profession, as well as cultural insights between the two countries.
- Cultural Excursions in Chiang Rai Province: The program included cultural activities to provide a rich cultural experience and enhance understanding of Thai culture.
- Awarding Certificates of Course Completion: The program concluded with a ceremony where certificates of course completion were awarded, recognizing the students' hard work and achievements. This formal recognition serves to motivate and encourage students in their journey of lifelong learning and professional development.
The “Nursing and Health in Thailand” training program provided a significant opportunity to strengthen the partnership between MFU-SoN and Deakin University School of Nursing and Midwifery. It fostered academic and cultural exchange, enriching the educational experiences of both institutions.
